چکیده

Objective To investigate the causes of secondary glaucoma in retinoblastoma (RB) and underscore the significance of glaucoma as a presenting sign of RB. Methods A 7-month-old boy, initially diagnosed with congenital glaucoma in the left eye (OS), revealed an intraocular RB on further work-up. The eye was eventually enucleated and histopathology showed iris neovascularization (NVI) and a large solitary posterior-pole RB tumor with total retinal detachment. Using this as an illustrative case, a literature search on the relationship of glaucoma and RB was done to determine the incidence and the most common mechanisms of RB-induced glaucoma. Results The most common mechanisms of secondary glaucoma in RB were: iris neovascularization (30–72%), pupillary block (27%), and tumor seeding of the anterior chamber (2%). Conclusion We presented a case of RB-induced glaucoma that mimicked congenital glaucoma. Awareness that RB may present initially as glaucoma is essential for appropriate evaluation and management.

Resolution of iris neovascularization following chemoreduction of advanced retinoblastoma.

Iris neovascularization (NVI) in eyes with newly diagnosed retinoblastoma is a hallmark of advanced tumor. These eyes often display secondary glaucoma and additional partial or complete retinal detachment. From a clinical perspective, NVI with secondary glaucoma is noted in approximately 12% of eyes with retinoblastoma, and from a pathology perspective, NVI has been found in 44% of eyes followi...

Anterior-segment retinoblastoma mimicking pseudoinflammatory angle-closure glaucoma: review of the literature and the important role of imaging.

A 7-year-old boy presented with angle-closure glaucoma, initially presumed to be idiopathic. A ciliary body mass was later detected on MR imaging, suggestive of medulloepithelioma but pathologically proved to be diffuse infiltrating retinoblastoma. We discuss the patient management and review the literature, with emphasis on the role of CT and MR imaging in evaluating pediatric angle-closure gl...

This case reinforces the importance of a complete ophthalmic history, examination, and ancillary t...
